For many divers, scuba diving begins as an adventure. But eventually, many start asking a bigger question:

How can my dives actually contribute to protecting the ocean?

At Rich Coast Diving in Playas del Coco, Costa Rica, our marine conservation programs are designed to transform recreational divers into confident Eco-Divers capable of contributing to real marine research and conservation efforts.

Whether you are a passionate diver, marine biology student, gap year traveler, or future dive professional, our programs combine ocean adventure with meaningful conservation impact.

What Is a Marine Conservation Diving Program?

Marine conservation diving programs combine scuba diving with citizen science, marine ecology education, and structured underwater monitoring.

Collect data for marine conservation in costa rica

Instead of simply enjoying the dive, participants learn how to:

  • Identify marine species

  • Conduct structured underwater surveys

  • Record scientifically valid observations

  • Submit data to global conservation databases

  • Support long-term marine ecosystem monitoring

At Rich Coast Diving, our programs include internationally recognized training through SSI Ecology Specialties, REEF Fish Survey Project, and Green Fins environmental education initiatives.

The result is a hands-on learning experience where divers develop both ecological knowledge and practical survey skills.

Why Costa Rica Is One of the Best Places for Marine Conservation Diving

Costa Rica is globally recognized for its biodiversity, and the Pacific waters surrounding Playas del Coco and the Gulf of Papagayo are among the richest marine ecosystems in Central America.
