For all level divers, the dive sites of Playas del Coco located in the Gulfo Papagayo offer an ideal setting.

We offer dive sites with a wide range of marine life such as huge schools of tropical fish, barracudas and big eye jacks, white tip reef sharks, sea turtles, devil rays, golden cow-nose rays, eagle rays, a variety of eels and even macro life like harlequin shrimp, frogfish and nudibranchs. Divers planning their visit for a diving holiday often ask us when the best time to dive in Playas del Coco, Guanacaste. Our favorite time of the year is half May until end November.

Overall, our location offers excellent year-round diving opportunities, but the Pacific Coast has unique geographical conditions that change the diving conditions from day to day, and in our experience May to November are the best months.

Also, the weather is less dry and hot, so everything is beautiful and green. On top of that, these months are a quiet time of the year in terms of visitors so you can get great deals on accommodation, car rental and tours. Generally, our water temperature ranges from 23 – 28 Celsius throughout the year so a 3 - 5 mm wetsuit is sufficient to keep you comfortably warm under water.

In Costa Rica the seasons are divided between the rainy season (which runs from May to November) and the dry season (which runs November to April). But note that the name "rainy season" is somewhat misleading as Guanacaste is one of the driest provinces of Costa Rica and is far less rainy than the other states. But if you plan to come outside the suggested period (May - November) then we could say that the dry or wet season do not affect our diving conditions. So, any time of the year is great to come diving with us!

We have over 20 local dive sites in the Gulf of Papagayo and most dive sites are within a 10-15 minute boat ride from Playas del Coco.

If you haven’t been diving in over 12 months, we require a refresher session before joining a trip.

Our local dive sites offer a wide variety of marine life including eagle rays, devil rays, white tip reef sharks, nurse sharks, pelagic schools of fish, many species of reef fish and for macro enthusiasts there are nudibranchs, seahorses and harlequin shrimp. If that wasn't enough, we are also conveniently located for diving with Bullsharks around the Murciélago Archipelago (Bats Islands). And diving with Oceanic Mantas around the Catalinas Islands.

Yes! Many sites are suitable for all certification levels, and our instructors will match sites to your experience. We offer the "Try Diving" experience and Open Water Diver certification courses.

Yes, we highly recommend that all divers have valid dive insurance before entering the water. Most standard travel insurance policies do not cover diving-related incidents, such as decompression sickness or emergency evacuation.

Yes! At Rich Coast Diving, you can rent a GoPro to capture your underwater adventure in high definition. Just let our team know when you check in for your dive.

GoPro rental costs $30 per diving trip, which includes the camera, waterproof housing, and mounting accessories. You can bring your own Micro SD card or use ours.

Just download the GoPro app and after your dive, we’ll help you transfer your footage right to your phone so you can relive and share your diving experience immediately.

Our GoPros are fully waterproof and safe to use for all recreational diving depths around Playas del Coco and the Bats and Catalina Islands.
