Divemaster life in Costa Rica
A typical Divemaster internship in Costa Rica starts early with a relaxed “Pura Vida” mindset and a full day of hands-on dive training and real-world dive shop experience. Your day begins around 06:45 AM with internship activities such as pool training, preparing dive boats, or assisting with Open Water courses and specialty training. As a Career Center, we run a wide range of SSI programs, giving you exposure to multiple teaching styles and dive education levels. When assigned to the boat, you’ll dive at some of Costa Rica’s best dive sites, assisting guests while experiencing marine life such as turtles, rays, sharks, and large schools of fish. During the right season, you may also encounter oceanic manta rays or bull sharks. Around midday, boats return to the dive center. After diving, you help unload, rinse equipment, and prepare gear and logistics for the next day’s dives. One afternoon per week is typically free or shop-based, allowing for a later start (around 11:30 AM) and guest interaction until 5 PM. On other days, duties usually finish around 2:00 PM, giving you free time to relax at the Divemaster accommodation, enjoy the beach, or watch sunset with your team. Dive. Eat. Sleep. Repeat. This is the Divemaster lifestyle in Costa Rica.
Divemaster Accomodation
Our recommended accommodation is ideally located just one block from the beach in Playas del Coco, within easy walking distance of local restaurants, cafés, and bars. We offer several accommodation options to suit different preferences and budgets during your Divemaster training. You may choose to stay in our intern house, where you can share the experience with other Divemaster candidates in a social and supportive environment. The house features a large outdoor garden with BBQ area, a shared kitchen and living room, and multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. Private rooms with en-suite bathrooms are also available, including options suitable for couples. Alternatively, you are welcome to arrange your own accommodation. Playas del Coco offers a wide range of rentals, including hotels, apartments, and private rooms. Many candidates choose to book through platforms such as Airbnb or local Facebook groups like Coco Chitchat or Coco Rentals.
