Scuba Skills Update

Your Dive certification never expires; but if you haven't been diving in a while, it's better to be over-prepared than risk a problem because you forget something important. Let us help you to refresh your skills and get you comfortable diving again.

We require a Refresher or ReActivate if you have not been diving for more than 12 months. Our refresher program is great for those who haven’t been diving in a while and don’t feel like just jumping right back in without going through equipment and basic skills. Maybe you don’t have many dives under your belt or just feel a bit nervous every time you want to dive.

We offer the Scuba Skills Update with SSI and PADI and you can start the digital learning at the comfort of your home before the trip. And then contact us to plan the in-water activities (pool and open water sessions 2 dives). When you arrive at the dive center you will go over the dive theory to refresh your memory and continue to the pool with one of our Dive Instructors and go over the basic skills and buoyancy practice. After getting comfortable in the water again the next day we’ll take you to the boat to join the morning 2 tank dive tour (7.30AM - 12.00AM).

As part of the Scuba Skills Update Course we offer a 2-tank daily dive trip to our local dive sites in the Papagayo Gulf. Dive sites are characterised by volcanic rock formations approx. 10 mins boat ride from the shore.

When you sign up for the Scuba Skills Update Course we make sure that everything is included.

Complete a pool session and theory session on the first day, where you'll practice setting up dive gear, make ascents and descents, and review any scuba skills you may have forgotten. On the next morning go for 2 open water dives and let the fun begin !

• Prerequisites: (Junior) Scuba Diver certification or proof of entry-level diver certification from another training organization with four open water dives

• Digital learning

• Equipment & Dive computer rental

• One pool training session

• 2 Open water dives (morning 2 tank dive trip)

Please bring your scuba diving license:

• Towels

• Camera or GoPro (plenty of dry space is available onboard)

• Credit card or cash for payment, cash for tips or extra services,

• Reef safe sunscreen (for sale in our shop) and or a sunhat.

Before diving with us, ensure you leave at least 24 hours between your last dive and flying or driving to altitude. Proof of certification is required, so bring your diving license to complete paperwork. If you need a pick-up from your accommodation, we can arrange it for an additional charge. Please note that all tours are subject to a cancellation fee.

When to go diving in Costa Rica ?

Our location offers great diving and training conditions all year round. The water temperature generally ranges from 26 - 28 degrees Celsius year round (with some colder days in February), so a 3 - 5mm wetsuit is sufficient to keep you comfortably warm. The visibility of the waters on our Pacific Coast can change from day to day. It can be very clear on some days and only a few meters or feet on other days. But don't let it spoil your dive as the marine life is always there to entertain you ! Conveniently located our dive sites are only 10-15 minutes away and accessible year-round for diving and snorkeling.

What about diving in the dry season or rainy season ?

In Costa Rica, the seasons are divided between the rainy season (which runs from May to November) and the dry season (which runs from November to April). Generally we have the best visibility and warm water from April to November. And from November to March the underwater conditions can be a bit more unpredictable. With colder water (24 - 26 Celsius) and more nutrient rich water with less visibility. That said the marine life is always there and the nutrient rich waters of the pacific bring a lot of species of rays to our dive sites in the dry season (November to April). And even the chance to see the Giant Oceanic Mantas at Catalinas Islands !
